Forrest House History

Forrest Medical Group opened in 1980 in the main street of Pinjarra and was known then as the Pinjarra Doctors Surgery. The Practice as it is today came about as a break away from Murray Medical Group.
Prior to 1980 Murray Medical covered a huge area including Waroona, Dwellingup, North Dandalup, Serpentine, Pinjarra and Mandurah. Two Doctors travelled to each town, bu t as Mandurah expanded, Murray Medical needed to reduce services in some of the towns, in order to cater for the increasing demand in Mandurah.
Dr Roger Boyd and Drs Peter & Pat Wallace decided that they were not satisfied with the reduction in services, especially in Waroona. It was at this time in 1980 that the surgery was established in George Street and a surgery was also opened in Waroona.
The practice expanded rapidly and in 1982 it was relocated in the old Water Corporation Building, 27 - 29 Forrest Street, Pinjarra and became known as Forrest Medical Group.
Forrest House needed a substantial amount of internal restructuring to meet the building code requirements for a Doctors Surgery. Initially the building was too large for the Doctors Practice and Turk Ellis Accountancy purchased it.
Over the years Forrest Medical Group has continued to expand and in 1999 the Accountants office was bought and turned into the Nurses Treatment Area.
Forrest Medical Group now has a satellite surgery in Waroona (the original building purchased in 1982)
In October 2008, Forrest Medical Group relocated to the Murray Districts Hospital in Pinjarra, becoming the first centre of its kind in Western Australia. This represented the culmination of 5 years hard work by Drs Peter and Patricia Wallace, along with the considerable efforts of all of their excellent team.
It has grown from being an initial three Doctor practice with one receptionist to having approximately 24 people on staff including five nursing sisters. Forrest Medical Group is a training practice for General Practitioners and usually has 2 registrars practising in any six-month period.
